This is a graduate level course on spread spectrum communication techniques with emphasis on commercial and military applications including CDMA cellular systems. Major topics include: direct sequence and frequency hopping methods, synchronization issues, resistance to jamming (or unintentional interference), low probability of detection (or interference caused to other systems), spreading codes and their generation, performance of spread spectrum systems, Rake receivers, Code Division Multiple Access, cellular CDMA applications of spread spectrum, wireless LAN applications of spread spectrum, military applications of spread spectrum
