Space Time Coding

Space-Time codes have formed a considerable part of the MIMO research here at MPRG. Ran Gozali’s dissertation [1] focused on the practical implications of using space time trellis codes and space time block codes for high data rate wireless communications. The effect of channel estimation errors, spatially correlated channels and multi-path channels on the performance of these codes was studied ([2] [3] [4] [5] [6] and [7]).

The application of MIMO processing to WLAN systems is discussed in [8]. Decoding algorithms for multi-layered space-time coding systems (a combination of V-BLAST and STBC) is compared in [9].

Research has also been performed on decoding algorithms for a multi-group space time code system. This system combines transmit diversity and special multiplexing over MIMO channels. The decoders are based on multi-user detection techniques ([12],[13]). Work also includes a study  on the sphere decoder for MIMO systems [14].
