SDR Facilities and Equipment at MPRG

MPRG has 6000 square feet of laboratory space which supports research activities in SDR which include:

  • Software radio hardware and software using advanced signal processing algorithms such as smart antennas, interference rejection, and position determination.

  • Simulation and analysis of wireless systems using real channel data and realistic channel models

  • Measurement, analysis, and simulation of propagation characteristics

MPRG’s Radio Lab equipment includes:

  • SDR 3000, an Software Communication Architecture (SCA) Radio with two PowerPC processors and four Vertex II FPGAs

  • Mercury RACE++ AdapDevTM 1220/1280 development workstation with VantageRT 7410 modules each with one 500MHz PowerPC for multiprocessor application.

  • A four channel 1 GHz vector channel measurement system and software radio (custom designed and built) for measuring Multiple Input and Multiple Output (MIMO) channels and rapid prototyping of MIMO algorithms

  • Signia's SI-9136 four channel 20 MHz to 2.5 GHz receiver

  • Multiple DSP development systems from Texas Instruments, Analog Devices, Motorola, Xilinx, and Altera

  • Custom made 2x2 MIMO software radio

                           (Tx)                                                                        (Rx)

  • Ultrawideband channel sounder (custom designed and built)

  • Over 50 high performance workstations

  • Extensive software resources:  MATLAB, SPW, multiple C compilers, VHDL design

  • Bluetooth development systems

  • Printed circuit board router and assembly station

  • Wideband instruments: high speed digitizing scopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators tools, PC board layout tools, and AutoCAD
